What is CryoPen cryotherapy?

​

CryoPen is a precision cryotherapy device that delivers a fine, controlled jet of nitrous oxide to freeze unwanted skin lesions. The intense cold destroys the targeted tissue while sparing the healthy skin around it.

 

Because the application is so accurate, it can be used confidently on delicate areas, including the face. Most individual lesions are treated in a matter of seconds.​

What to expect?

​

• Consultation and assessment. We examine the lesion(s) you'd like treated and confirm whether CryoPen is appropriate.

​

• Treatment. The CryoPen tip is held close to the lesion and the area is frozen in short bursts. Each lesion usually takes only seconds. Most people describe a brief mild stinging or cold sensation.

​

• Healing. The treated area may redden, blister or form a small scab as it heals over the following days to a few weeks. We'll give you simple aftercare advice to follow at home.

​

• Review. Depending on the lesion, a single treatment may be enough, while some (verrucae in particular) can need more than one session. We'll let you know what to expect for your skin.​​

What we don't treat

 

Your safety comes first. We do not use CryoPen on moles, or on any lesion that is changing, bleeding, or that we feel needs further investigation. If we have any concern about a lesion we'll explain why and, where appropriate, advise you to see your GP or a dermatologist.

Frequently asked questions

 

Does CryoPen hurt?

Most people feel a brief cold or stinging sensation as the lesion is frozen. It's generally well tolerated, treatment takes only seconds per lesion.

How many treatments will I need?

It depends on the lesion. Many clear after a single treatment, while some, verrucae especially, may need more than one session. We'll give you a realistic idea at your consultation.

 

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on the number and type of lesions, so we provide a clear price at your consultation once we've assessed your skin.

 

Can you remove moles?

No. We don't treat moles or any lesion that may need medical investigation. If we have any concern about a lesion, we'll advise you to have it checked rather than freeze it.

 

Is there any downtime?

Very little. The treated area may redden and form a small blister or scab that heals over the following days to a few weeks. You can usually carry on with your day as normal.

 

Is it suitable for all skin tones?

Cryotherapy carries a higher risk of a lasting change in skin colour on darker skin tones. We assess this individually and will talk it through honestly with you before treating.

 

Will the lesion come back?

Many lesions are removed for good, though some can recur or need a repeat treatment. We'll set realistic expectations for your particular lesion.
